Visited the USS Constitution today while in Boston. Pretty awesome to see in person. There is a great book called The Six Frigates that talked about the first six ships in the US Navy and it was very cool to go aboard this one while knowing a bit more than the Wikipedia history. Also, the sailors who man the ship do an excellent job explaining things. The say it is a huge honor to do a stint aboard.
Words to live by.

Nice pictures. And to think, the crew knows every single one of those ropes.

Found this today:
CHARLESTOWN, Mass. (June 17, 2014) Gunner's Mate Seaman Amada Williamson, from Palm Bay, Fla., heaves on a line connected to the mizzenmast topsail aboard USS Constitution. Constitution Sailors conduct sail training during spring and summer months to learn seamanship techniques utilized aboard Old Ironsides since the 1790s.

Judging by the presence of tourists in the background, this was likely some sort of demonstration in port. But yeah, I'd want gloves, too.
